Clara Mae Hall

Clara Mae Josephine Boster Hall 98, formerly of Huntington passed away February 6, 2014 in Maineville, OH. She was born October 5, 1915 in Huntington, WV a daughter of the late Alvin Edward Boster and Mary Emma Zeta Chapman Boster. She is preceded in death by her brother Alvin Boster, another brother Otis Boster and her sister Elaine Boster Pitts. Clara Mae graduated from Huntington High School and received her BA in English and Social Studies in 1937 from Marshall University. She went on to further her education receiving her MA in History and Minor in Education in 1942. Clara Mae attended Johnson Memorial United Methodist Church in Huntington and married her late husband Mervin Dale Hall on March 22, 1940. Clara Mae dedicated her life to education. Her career which would span decades included teaching in Greenbrier County, WV 1937-38, teaching and librarian in Logan County, WV 1938-42, teaching in Lincoln County 1942-43, serving as secretary for the YMCA in Huntington 1943-45, serving as secretary to the dean of the Graduate School of Marshall University 1946-55, teaching at Coral Gables High School in Miami, FL 1955-59 and serving as head librarian in Shenandoah Jr. High in Miami, FL 1959-78. Clara Mae retired from the Public School System in June 1978. She was very active in her community which included being president of the Huntington Child Conversation League 1954-55, President of the Omicron Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma- Dade County Fl. 1972-74 and later 1977-78, President of the AAUW- American Association of University Women, Reviewer for Children's Books-Dade County Public Library System, President of the Women's' Garden Club in Huntington and enjoyed volunteering for the Huntington Museum of Art. Clara Mae was also a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Alpha-Chapter in Huntington and had been active in the United Methodist Women's Circle Work where she served as chairman over several committees throughout the years. She served in many other organizations too numerous to mention. Clara Mae spent most of her early adulthood in Huntington until she moved to Miami, Florida - Coral Gables in 1955. After her retirement she moved back to Huntington in 1979 where she remained until December of 2004 when she moved to Lebanon, OH, Otterbein Retirement Community. In January 2013 she moved to the Maineville, OH, Otterbein Nursing Facility. Clara Mae Hall devoted her life to the education of youth and to creating educational opportunities for young women as well as disadvantaged individuals. When serving in leadership roles she led with vision, passionately devoted to her beliefs and the mission for which she served. Her deep love of beauty and esthetics was evident all around her. After retiring she enjoyed international travel, taking delight in experiencing other cultures all the while continuing to serve the community in many different capacities. Survivors include her daughter Pamela Sue Hall and her partner Judi Winall of Morrow, OH and nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be conducted at 2:00pm Monday February 10, 2014 at Ferrell-Chambers Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Joe Hill Officiating. Burial will follow in Woodmere Memorial Park, Huntington.
