Ethea Scott

Ethea Mae Scott was born July 21, 1943. She was among seven children born to the union of James Henry Bolden and Ethea Gibson—both deceased. She grew up in Traylee (Wyoming County), West Virginia. She later moved to Huntington to live with her aunt Nellie Keeler. Ethea Mae attended Douglas High School and was in the first graduating class of Huntington High School after the closure of Douglas. Following her aunt’s example, she completed requirements and graduated from the Marshall University School of Nursing. She was employed as a nurse at the Huntington State Hospital—currently known as the Mildred Mitchell Bateman Hospital—until retirement. Not content to sit idle, she returned to school, earned her degree as a Registered Nurse at Ohio University, and resumed working at the Department of Veteran’s Affairs Hospital of Huntington. Ethea Mae Scott transitioned from this life on Wednesday, September 18, 2024 at her home. Including her parents, she was preceded in passing by her brothers, Alphonso Bolden, Carl Bolden, Gordon Bolden and Garfield Bolden; also, her sons Melvin Jennings and Calvin Jennings. Remaining to cherish memories of her life are her son, Andre’ Scott; brother, Tyrone Bolden of New York, and sister Mamie Ball of Columbus, Ohio. In addition, she leaves her grandchildren, Ryan Williams, Ivory McCall, Raynaud McCall, Antonio McCall, Leron McCall, Anthony Jennings, and caretaker, Brandon Jennings; along with great grandchildren, Nevaeh, Ivoryan’ha, Ivory, Jr., Brandon, Jr., Brayvion, and Brenlynn; also remaining is her treasured friend, Zelma Morton. Ethea Mae will be greatly missed by those that knew and loved her. A Home-going service will be conducted 12:00 P.M, Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at Full Gospel Assembly, Huntington, WV with Bishop Samuel Moore officiating. Interment will follow at Spring Hill Cemetery, Huntington, WV. Visitation will be conducted from 11:00 A.M to 12:00 P.M, Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at Full Gospel Assembly.
