Hershell Ross Miller

Hershell Ross Miller 1932-2023 91, of Raceland, KY went home to be with the Lord on Friday, December 15, 2023, at Community Hospice Care Center of Ashland, KY surrounded by his loving family. Hershell died from complications of CHF from which he had suffered for several years. He was one of six children born to William “Bill” and Rose Patton Miller. His only surviving sibling is Ronald Darius Miller of Flatwoods, KY. Two brothers, Edgar Miller and Harold Miller predeceased him. Two sisters, Wanda Hieneman and Judy Virgin have also gone before him. Hershell was born in Greenup County, KY on September 09, 1932. His birthday is now known as “Hershell Miller Day” in Greenup County after Judge Executive Bobby Carpenter declared the day on his 80th birthday. He graduated from McKell High School in 1950. He was also a Kentucky Colonel. He was called to service his country in the US Army stationed in Bamburg, Germany and was discharged as a Corporal in 1955. Hershell began working for the C&O Railroad in 1951 at its Raceland Car Shop. He retired in 1993, having attained the position of General Foreman. He counted his coworkers among his best friends. After all, he spent the most time with them. He is survived by his loving wife, Janice Justice Miller; three daughters, Kathy (Bob) Hahn of Columbus, OH; Beverly Browning of Rochester Hills, MI; and Bobbie Felty Clevenger of Raceland, KY; granddaughters, Brittany (Brendan) Shanahan of Austin, TX, Erica (Dan) Lathers of Ortonville, MI, Cecilia (Avery Patton) Bickham of Cincinnati, OH, Amy (Tim) Moore of Huntington, WV, Andrea Felty of Owingsville, KY, Abby Clevenger of Louisville, KY and Krista (Chris) Topacio; grandsons, Daniel Clevenger of Louisville, KY and Ryan (Wendy) Browning; great grandchildren, Dylan Crouch, Brennan Moore, Lia Moore, Peyton McComas, Jaylyn Crouch, Silas McComas, Ayla Lathers, Cooper Lathers and Kenny Browning; and a host of other family and friends who will miss him dearly. Per Hershell’s request, there will be no visitation or service. In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Community Hospice Care Center, of Ashland, KY, 2330 Pollard Road, Ashland, KY, 41101.
