Jeanette Gail Chaffin

Jeanette Gail Lafon Chaffin of Huntington WV, born December 19, 1945 peacefully entered into eternal rest at her daughter's home in South Carolina on September 4, 2020 at 1220am at the age of 74 years old. Her short Battle with Stage 4 Squamous Cell Bladder Cancer may have taken her life on this earthly realm, however, she won the battle by going home to the Lord and to so many family, friends and loved ones that have been awaiting her arrival to Welcome her to that heavenly shore. I can imagine the grand reunion they had when she was gone from our sight and entered theirs. I can almost hear them shouting and rejoicing that "Here She Comes, she is Home!!" as she arrived to them with open arms. She is preceded in death by her loving mom & dad Donald Ray Lafon and Lula Pearle Krantz Lafon, Her brother Mick Lafon and his wife Linda Lafon, Her sister Sandra Lafon, the love of her life and husband of 37 years Bobby Gene Chaffin, Angel grandchildren Michael Gene Chaffin and Pearl LaRae Chaffin, and others not named. As well as many other loved ones, family and friends. She leaves behind to always cherish her memory, her daughter Melissa Gail Chaffin, her son Tony Ray Chaffin, 3 grandchildren Alyssa Marie Chaffin, Dakota Ray Chaffin and Noah David Chaffin, 4 great grandchildren Bradlee, Kara, Aaylah and Eveya and one Grandbird "Mickey". She also leaves a multitude of loved ones, family and friends that will forever cherish her memory and the amazing person she was. In Lieu of Flowers the family ask that donations be made to Hospice. Her daughter states that "Even though mom loved flowers, she would also love knowing others families was being helped and supported as we was under the "bubble of Love" we received from hospice." Visitation will be held from 11:00 A.M to 12:00 P.M. Interment will follow at Rome Cemetery, Proctorville, Ohio. Ferrell Chambers Funeral home located at 924 20th St. Huntington, WV is honored to assist the family Jeanette was born on December 19, 1945 to the loving parents of Donald Ray Lafon and Lula Pearle Krantz Lafon. She became the baby sister to Michael (Mick) Ray Lafon. She also had a older sister Sandra Lafon that passed when she was 3 days old that she has now gotten to meet. Jeanette graduated from Fairland High School Proctorville, Oh in 1963. After H.S. she went onto beauty school where she became a Master Beautician. It was during beauty school that she would hang out at Frisch's Big Boy in Huntington, WV. There she met a handsome bus boy that was destined to become the true love of her life, after Elvis of course. I recall her telling me that not long after meeting, on their 1st date he told her that one day you are going be my wife. She laughed at him at the time, however, their love story had already been written in the stars and after a very short engagement Jeanette married the love of her life Bobby Gene Chaffin on June 20, 1965. On May 28th 1966 a daughter would be given to them and a son would follow on March 9th, 1968. Even though Bob & Jean's love story would end on this earthly realm 37 years later when dad passed Sept. 2, 2002, their love never died and she cherished this love and marriage until she went home to be reunited with him. She celebrated every anniversary. Not long after her daughter was born they made the decision that it was important for her to be a stay home mom. Jean without regrets gave up her beautician career to do just this. Even though she did work occasionally throughout the years caring and loving other children in our home. She was known and loved my many as Mama J. All that met her whether they was friends of her children or others would soon lovingly call her "Mom" or "Mama J" and later many would call her "Momal" Jeanette esp. later in life loved to travel, she loved taking cruises with her daughter and seeing new places and beaches, the beach any beach was her happy place and the ocean calmed her spirit. She loved her dolphins. She loved taking new journeys and living life. She was so proud of herself for having the courage to parasail for the 1st time a few years ago over Grand Cayman and wanted to go back again. Out of all these loves, however, her greatest love was always her Family. She was and will always be our greatest cheerleader, our counselor, our confidant, our unsung hero, the wind beneath our wings, my 1st and forever best friend and so many more things. She was an amazing mom, friend, momal and the one of the most beautiful blessings that was given to us that made our lives and this world a brighter place. She always looked for the good in people and most of the time had the ability to see the best things we could never see in ourselves. She would often say I wish you could see all that I see in you. She loved God wholeheartedly and for years sang gospel music with her daughter. Over the years she has taught country line dancing, she enjoyed doing any crafts and being creative and so much more but mostly she taught her children, grandchildren and loved ones how to be strong independent people, to love fully and to be the amazing people we are today. Jeanette may be gone from our sight but she will forever live on in our hearts, our memories and in our lives. As she watched over us here on Earth so she continues to watch over us on high. We have the blessed assurance that one day we can be reunited with her for eternity. She told me couple months ago when we started this end journey that the one thing she most wanted people to know and remember was that she lived a good life without any regrets. She loved us fully till the end and even though we had many journeys we planned to still take and her end journey was not in anyway one that we ever thought we would take, I am blessed knowing that in the end she was able to go peacefully in the knowing that we all love and cherished her. That she didn't need to worry about us, we would be ok and I promised her that I would continue and take those journeys we had planned, take her with me in my heart and one day when my race here was done we would walk on that heavenly beach and would talk all about my journeys and hers in heaven since we had been apart. I held her hands in mine till she went peacefully and had a smile on her face as she went home. When we started this end journey I promised mom that I would hold her hand, love and support her till we got to the end "In This Family no one fights Alone and her Battle was Our Battle" I am blessed in the gift of being able to fulfill this promise made to her. She would not want us to mourn for her for she is now happy and whole in a body that is not failing her any longer. She would want us to go on to live and to celebrate the dash in her life, its not how we arrive (are born) or how we leave (pass on) its the dash in between, the way we lived our lives and the person we are that matters. One of the journeys Jean always wanted to go and see was Hawaii. It was a journey we was planning on taking. We decided that even though it was not a journey that she was able to take we will be bringing Hawaii to her Celebration of Life. Please feel free to wear your brightest or tropical clothes, if you are unable to attend the service than maybe you can wear something bright or tropical to honor her that day in your everyday life.
