Martha Darby

Minister Martha Darby was born August 3, 1941, in Logan, West Virginia. She was one of thirteen (13) children born to the late Reverend Charlie and Mrs. Mary Hilton Johnson, both deceased. She married Joseph Scott, now deceased and they had seven (7) children. She later married Charles Darby, also deceased. At an early age, she moved with her family to Huntington where she attended Douglas High School. While in school she was active both as a majorette and a cheerleader. In an effort to accommodate the desire to improve her knowledge and skillset, she attended OIC and Marshall University. At the time of her passing, Martha was a faithful member of Full Gospel Assembly where she played a vital and active role in several ministries until failing health no longer permitted. She was involved in the music ministry, serving as a praise and worship leader as well as participating in the Power Of Praise Choir, the Drama Guild, and the Outreach Ministry. Sister Darby was a Sunday School teacher, an active member of the Women’s Ministry, and an Intercessor. In addition, as a former member of Christ Temple AOH Church, she was a member of CRC. Her love for music led her to become a member of both the Non-Denominational Choir and the Huntington Community Choir under the direction of Elder Johnny Morris. Our beloved departed was employed at Whiteway Laundry, Fanuel Telemarketing, as a manager at Jambo Cleaners, and for a while was the announcer’s voice at Wal-Mart. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, singing, and bowling. In addition to both parents, she was preceded in death by siblings: Kenzie Johnson, Clara Sorrell, Cora Floyd, Robert Johnson, William “Bill” Johnson, Earl Johnson, Lee Johnson, Willis Johnson, twin sister, Mary Elizabeth Johnson, granddaughter Imani, and great grandson, Damien, Jr. Left to cherish her memory are siblings: Charlie Johnson, Jr., Jan Faye Smith, and Don Ray Johnson; her children: Joseph and wife Kyoto Johnson, Sabrenna Coleman, Bryant Keith and wife Barbara Scott, Carla and husband Maurice King, Don Scott, Mary Layne, and Robert Johnson. She’ll also be remembered by her grandchildren: Terris, Tosha and husband Joey, Marcelena, KaiRon and wife Elizabeth, Clarissa, Shameica, Brett and wife Shayla, Joyce and husband Wesley, Tera, Erenisse, William, Joseph and wife Alyssa, Charneice, Deyzwhante, Taylor, Iyawna, Ronald, Christian, and Jaron, along with great-grandchildren: Ahleeyah, Shaniah, Trevon, Ahnaliese, Audriana, Alexander, Ayden, Terrin, A’Larica, Oniah, KaiRon, Jr., Amira, Kaiden, Cai’ro, Ezren, Makhi, Jasiah, Jeremiah, Elijah, and Kingsley, one great-great grandchild, Ianni; one god child, Timbalena; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and other family. Sister Martha, as she was affectionately known, transitioned from this life to her new residence in Paradise on Tuesday, September 27. She will be greatly missed by those that knew and cared about her. A Home Going service will be conducted 12:00 PM, Friday, October 7, 2022, at Full Gospel Assembly, 2101 10th Avenue, Huntington, WV, with Pastor, Bishop Samuel Moore, officiating. Interment will immediately follow in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville, WV. Visitation will take place from 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM, Friday October 7, 2022, at Full Gospel Assembly.
