Walter Reid Stuart

Walter Reid Stuart, age 86, of Scott Depot, WV passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Friday, December 5th, 2025. Reid was born May 26th, 1939 to Walter G. and Irene (Shephard) Stuart. He grew up on the family farm near Gildford, Mt that was homesteaded by his dad’s family in 1910. Reid enlisted in the US Navy in 1956 and proudly served from 10/2/1956 to 10/2/1962. He graduated from Northern Montana College in 1973. Reid married the love of his life, Delia Irene Overcast on July 10, 1960 in Havre, MT. They raised 4 children, Boyd, Rachelle, Jill & Bruce, whom he was always so proud of. They lived in many towns throughout MT until moving to Valier, MT in 1976 where they lived until moving to Conrad, MT in 2005. They have lived the past 8 ½ years in Scott Depot, WV with their daughter because of his failing health. Reid belonged to many organizations that he was very proud of. Longtime member of the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Algeria Shrine Temple, Tri-County Shrine Club & Corvette Patrol, Order of the Eastern Star, VFW, American Legion, NRA, Valier Sportsman Club, Mountain Bluebirds Trails, Pondera County Council on Aging BOD, and Teays Valley Church of God. Reid was a Hunter’s Education Instructor for MT Fish Wildlife and Parks for over 40 years. He was an avid Hunter, Fisherman & Gardner. He will be deeply missed by his wife, D. Irene Stuart, daughter, Jill (Chuck) Swigger, & Son, Bruce (Angie) Stuart. Grandchildren Jaylene Tennant, Gina (Dave) Nixon, Cassandra (Chad) Starcher, Paige (Noah Riley) Ash, Colton Wheeler, & Adam Stuart. Great grandchildren, Kaydence Nixon, Navaeh Nixon, Ethan Goetz, Peyson Herzog, Shiloh Stuart & Palmer Starcher. One great great granddaughter on the way. As well as many nieces, nephews & cousins and their families. Please always smile when you remember Dad. If you’ve met him personally, I’m sure you have heard some kind of story that has made you laugh! A celebration of life will be 1:00 P.M., Saturday, January 17th 2026 at the Teays Valley Church of God, Scott Depot, WV. Visitation will be held one hour prior. A second Celebration of Life will be held at a later date in Conrad, Montana. Ferrell-Chambers Funeral Home, Huntington, WV are entrusted with arrangements.
