William Jackson

William Benjamin Jackson, Sr. Sunrise: April 18, 1913, in Guyandotte, WV Sunset: January 28, 2006, in Columbus, Ohio, at Eastland Care Center Brother Jackson was the eldest of the late William Jackson and Fleta Jackson Morris. He received his education at Douglass High School and later received his bachelor's degree from West Virginia State University. He committed his life to the Lord at an early age and as an adult, in 1948, joined the First Baptist Church of Huntington, WV, where he maintained his membership. In 1940, Brother Jackson was united in marriage with Elsie Morton and they maintained their union until her death in 1994. From this union, this couple had three children. He was inducted into the United States Army in 1942 and served his country during World War II. He taught for many years at Douglass High School, Fairfield School, and East High School before his final retirement in 1985. He also retired from Appalachin Electric Power Company where he had worked for many years. Long after his retirement, he continued to be the sole proprietor of Jackson's Printing Shop and printed his final invitations in 1994. Brother Jackson was an active member of the American Legion in Huntington, WV., past Potentate of the Abdul Temple #133 of Huntington, WV., Alexander Freeman Lodge #20, and past Worthy Patron of Evergreen Chapter Order of Eastern Star, Chapter #43. He remained faithful and active to these organizations until the time of his illness and the need to relocate to Columbus, OH, where he was well respected and cherished by the other residents as well as the staff. Brother Jackson leaves to mourn his passing his children - William "Gute" (Sandra) Jackson, Jr., Victoria Jackson, and Carolyn Brown, all of Columbus ,OH; brother, Richard (Juanita) Morris, Kansas City, MO; sister-in-law , Rebecca Jackson , Huntington WV; one niece - Rebecca Louise Glass, Huntington, WV; one nephew- Eugene Jackson, Pinebluff, AK; 11 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren; special cousin -Beverly Meadows; special friend -Nellie Snow; First Baptist Church family and Springhill Baptist Church family (Columbus, OH), and many other relatives and friends, including Nettie Jackson, Ellen Johnson, and Patricia Cox of Huntington, WV.
