Dorothy Mae (Banks) Powell Sunrise September 28, 1942 Sunset April 8, 2022 Dorothy Mae (Banks) Powell Sunrise September 28, 1942 Sunset April 8, 2022 Mrs. Dorothy Mae (Banks) Powell, 79, of Huntington, WV, made her final transition on Friday, April 8, 2022, at Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House in Huntington, WV. She was born September 28, 1942, in Trammel, Virginia. The daughter of the late Mary Margaret (Faulkner) Banks and the late William Thomas Banks. Dorothy was a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church under the Reverend Eddie Nelson; then became a member of Sixteenth Street Baptist Church of Huntington, WV. Dorothy retired from the Huntington State Hospital, which became Mildred Mitchell Bateman with 39 years of service. She was a faithful volunteer worker with the Ronald McDonald House until her health would not allow her to continue. She belonged to the Order of the Eastern Star, Prince Hall Affiliation under Evergreen Chapter 43 as a Past Worthy Matron where she did fundraising and community service events, which allowed her to give to various communities in the Huntington area. She loved her church, even raising monetary donations from her bedside to purchase new chairs for the church. Preceding her in death were her parents; her grandmother, Elizabeth (Faulkner) Lipscomb; one daughter, Teresa Lynn Banks; one brother, William Banks; one nephew, William Isaac Bank; mother-in-law Annie Jackson; sisters-in-law, Sarah Jones (Jackson), Barbara Watts, Gloria Reed (Frank); and one brother-in-law, Jerry Jackson. Survivors include her loving husband, Lorenza Powell: three daughters Cynthia (Cindy) Banks (Raleigh NC), Mary Banks (Knightdale,NC), and Veronica Moore (Larry) (Durham, NC). Three grandchildren: Nia Moore, Carrington Banks and Kara Moore; honorary grandchildren, Roy Terry II and Ryan Terry; siblings, Isaac Banks (Huntington, WV), Josephine Johnson (Ray) (Knightdale, NC), Anna Banks (Huntington, WV), Timothy Wilburn (Dovie) (Huntington,WV), Brenda Richardson (Gerald) (Raleigh, NC), Solomon Wilburn (Huntington, WV), Victoria Wilburn (Huntington, WV), sisters-in-law, Corla Rankin (Greg) (Huntington, WV), Earnestine Richmond (Paul) (Huntington, WV), and Leola Page (Huntington, WV); one brother-in-law, Johnnie Jackson (Julia) (South Point, OH), and a Host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Special thanks to the staff at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House, Fresenius Kidney Care at HIMG, and Jan Care Ambulance Service. A Memorial Service will be conducted Saturday April 16, 2022, at Sixteenth Baptist Church, 1647 9th Avenue, Huntington, WV. The family will receive visitors from 12:30 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. and service will start at 1:00 p.m. Ferrell-Chambers Funeral Home, Huntington, WV is honored to assist the Powell family.
