Mr. Elgin Morris Ward Sr. Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Elgin “Butch” Morris Ward Sr. of Huntington, WV, passed-away on Monday, March 28, 2022, at the age of Eighty years old. He was born March 28,1942 to the late Ruby (Fizer) and James Ward. He attended Huntington East High School and Marshall University, where he graduated with both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. He enjoyed writing Appalachian Fiction and became a published author. He was a dedicated English Professor at Pikeville College until his retirement in May of 2014. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 56 years, Emily Carole Ward; one granddaughter, Amanda Ward; one brother, Teddy Ward; and one sister, Marcia Mansfield. He is survived by his three children, Elgin M. (Myrtle) Ward Jr. of Ceredo, WV; Timothy S. (Lisa) Ward of Barboursville, WV; Christopher B. (Jen) Ward of Houston TX; two siblings, Jim (Debbie) Ward of Huntington WV, Belinda Ward, of Huntington, WV; seven grandchildren, Bobby Pelfrey Jr., Michael Ward, Rachael Matthews, Tatum Ward, Josiah Ward, Brynna Murphy, and Bryanna Ward; eight great-grandchildren, Bobby Pelfrey III, Jasmine Pelfrey, Colt Pelfrey, Grant Ward, Zion Matthews, Piper Matthews, Canaan Matthews, Margo Ward, and a host of nieces, nephews, family & friends who loved him very much. Per his wishes, there will be no formal service, but the family will welcome friends and family from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Saturday April 2, 2022, at Ferrell-Chambers Funeral Home.
