Gregory Alan Calhoun

November 23, 1965 - January 28, 2022

On Friday, January 28, 2022, Gregory (Greg) A. Calhoun was called home to God after a brief illness in St. Mary’s ICU. The first of two sons, he was born on November 23, 1965, to Roy and Arie Calhoun in Dothan, Alabama. Greg was a military child, and the experience was made for him. He lived in West Virginia, Kentucky, California, New Jersey and overseas in Germany and made lifelong friends everywhere he lived. He graduated from Sullivan University with a dual major in Hotel/Restaurant Management and Culinary Arts. He excelled in all these areas, but his true calling was being a bartender and the cook at Fairfield East Recreation Center for the Children’s and Senior lunch programs. Greg had a very charismatic personality and the ability to talk to just about anyone. He epitomized the saying “never met a stranger”. It didn’t matter if the person was an ‘A’ list celebrity or a person standing next to him while voting or a child in a grocery store. He’d leave them all with a smile. He touched many lives during his 56 years, but nothing meant more to him than his family. He is survived by his parents, brother (Eric), daughter (Ashley Lathon-Calhoun), son (Branden) and four grandchildren. There were friends that he referred to as his “brothers from another mother”, JJ, Mitch, Tim and Debonaire. He also leaves behind his two closest friends, Elaine Lathon and Cathy Copeland. There are hundreds of other close family members, friends and loved ones who will not be mourning their loss but celebrating the life of a man who lived his passionately. Ferrell-Chambers Funeral Home, Huntington, WV is honored to assist the Calhoun family. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.ferrell-chambersfuneralhome.com.
