October 1, 1927 - January 29, 2021
Jewell Hope Swann Mays 93, went to be with her Savior on Friday, January 29th at the home of her daughter in Elizabethton, Tn. Jewell was born October 1, 1927 to the late Alva and Erie Swann. She was married to the late Alva James "Jim" Mays, owner of Mays Barber shop. She and Jim were charter member of Farmdale Church of Christ, Barboursville, and Jewell was the oldest surviving charter member. Jewell was a Sunday School teacher and taught children for many years at Farmdale. She and Jim were church treasurers for many years and also served as head of the Mission Committee. Left behind to cherish her memory are her son Tim and wife Robin and daughter Kathy and her husband Richard. She was Memaw to granddaughters Crystal and Maggie and grandsons Todd and wife Kerry, Justin, and Matthew and wife Mandy. Great grandchildren include Laura, Braedyn, Tori, Tyler, Tatum, Adison and one on the way this spring. Jewell was a faith centered woman who exhibited the love of Christ her entire life. She had a loving, caring spirit about her that showed in her open home where all were welcomed, fed, and loved on. If she had it to give she would give or find a way to help. She never failed to let people know that God knew what He was doing no matter what. Her faith was made known to her children, grandchildren, and even great grandchildren as even her great granddaughter would hand her her Bible before they left for church together. That Bible laid next to her chair on the table where she could pick it up easily to read every day. Tucked in that bible was the church prayer list so she could remember those she needed to pray for. Even when she couldn't go to church herself she would remind her daughter as she left to make sure and bring back the prayer list. She knew the power of prayer and truly lived what she believed. In lieu of flowers (which she thought were a waste) the family is asking that donations be made to Farmdale Church of Christ 6476 Farmdale Road, Barboursville. A Funeral service will be conducted 1:00 P.M, Friday, February 5th, 2021 at Ferrell Chambers Funeral Home, Huntington, WV with Ministers Danny Evans and Dereck James officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Woodmere Memorial Park, Huntington, WV. Visitation one hour before services. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at Ferrell-ChambersFuneralHome.com. tyler matney is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting.
