Dr. Mildred Battle Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Dr. Mildred Battle transitioned to her heavenly home on July 11th, 2022, at the Wyngate Senior Living Community in Barboursville, WV, at the age of 82. She was preceded in death by her loving parents, James Edward Battle Sr. and Mary Bellamy Battle, of North Carolina. She was also preceded in death by two loving brothers, James Edward Battle Jr. of Huntington, WV, and George Lyon of Rocky Mount, NC. She is also preceded in death by an uncle, Leroy Pittman. Dr. Battle is survived by her loving niece, Nicole Battle, of Columbus, OH, nephew, Jayme Battle, of Pennsylvania, sister-in-law, Connie Mitchell, of Gallipolis, OH, special Friend and caregiver, Sabrina Jewett, special cousins, Nedrick and Reggie Dickens, and Lavina Tackard of North Carolina, special Friend Jonella Coleman, and a host of other friends and family members. After completing her Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry at Central University, in Durham North Carolina, she pursued and earned a Master of Science degree from Marshall University. Dr. Battle was presented an honorary Doctorate of Letters degree at the World Forum Arts, Sciences. Dr. Battle worked as a project chemist with International Company of Huntington before returning to Marshall University and Marshall University Community College to become a professor of chemistry and mathematics. Dr. Battle traveled to 19 countries in her lifetime and served as a United States Ambassador to London. She was actively involved in church at Wyngate and taught Sunday school and Bible Study. She enjoyed spending time with her favorite dog, Toby. A Home-Going Service will be conducted 1:00 P.M, Monday, July 18, 2022 at Ferrell-Chambers Funeral Home, Huntington, WV with Pastor Rod Justice officiating. The family will welcome visitors from 11:00 A.M to 1:00 P.M, Monday, July 18, 2022 at Ferrell-Chambers Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Northeastern Cemetery, Rocky Mount, NC at 1:00 P.M, Tuesday, July 26, 2022. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.ferrell-chambersfuneralhome.com.
