Michael Dewayne Wattie

Michael Dewayne Wattie was born December 10, 1952, in Montgomery, West Virginia, was the son of Helen Wattie Hamlin and the brother to two sisters, Frances Tolliver and Barbara Wattie. He graduated from East Bank High School in East Bank, WV. After graduating from East Bank High School, he served in the U.S. Navy aboard the SS Farragut from 1972 to 1975. After his time in the Navy, Michael worked at Union Carbide and Alloy Steel. He went to barber school and became a master barber/beautician. After attending barber school, he had his own shop in Huntington, WV., where he made his life long home. Michael was also a lover of music and cooking, attending culinary school. He married Patricia (Lipscomb) Wattie and from their union have 3 children: Michael "Milk" Wattie, Jr., Nikki Wattie, both of Georgia, and Sean Wattie of Huntington, West Virginia. He has 2 grandsons, a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and close friends. Michael was a jokester, full of life. He’d always crack jokes on someone or find something to make fun of. Though he sometimes was not funny, HE thought he was and would always laugh. Even if he made you mad. One of his most famous sayings is “Who loves ya Baby?!?”, which he would always say then chuckle and wink. He would always be available to assist too. Whether you needed his help or not, he was always there…..critiquing, telling you what to do, how to do it and why you should do it, and giving “constructive criticism”. He loved being around family. This and other memories we will always have and cherish. Though he may no longer be with us, his spirit will always be with us all. We know that he loved us. And he knows that we love him! Interment will follow at Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery in Dunbar, WV.
