Whitney Halina Borders Al-Azawi

Our beautiful Whitney Halina Borders Al-Azawi, daughter of the late Therese Helene Borders and Sami Al-Azawi was born November 17, 1981. She quietly departed this life August 30, 2023. As a child she also resided in Florida, before the family returned to West Virginia. She furthered her education at Huntington Junior College, at which she received her degree. Whitney was well-known throughout the community and could be found cheering on her children at their sporting events, offering a friendly smile while being employed with local restaurants, chatting with neighbors, and traveling to enjoy different destinations. As a result of her generous spirit and helping hand she was loved by many. She was as beautiful as the flowers that she loved, and she will remain in the hearts of all who knew her. Preceded in death by her mother Therese Hatcher, “Nannie & Papaw’ Getrude & Bill Kelley, loving grandmother Mary Helen Gayhart, special grandmother Emma Jean Canado, Aunt Laurel Borders Arthur, and niece Lillian Sophia Kennedy. Her spirit will live on through the hearts of children: daughters Rachel and Sara Borders, sons Ya'riah and Ja'ziah Petties, of Huntington; brothers William H Johnson Jr., Phillip G. Johnson (Autumn), and Taurean A. Johnson; nieces and nephews, Chayton Johnson, Dyquez Foster, Jada Gutierrez, Aaliyah Johnson, Carson Johnson, Myster Johnson, G’Monte Johnson, and Gianna Johnson; great-niece Nyela Jones; special sisters Latia Shyneka Garrett, LaTisha Ann Figg, Bianca Hensley; special friend Jan Petties; aunts Susan Justice and Michelle Borders; special aunts Karen Myers, Teresa Crisp, Renee Cleckley, Vickie Garrett, Helena Washington, Sherri Kelley, and Tina Ward; and host of family members, cousins, and friends. Funeral Services will be conducted 12:00 PM, Friday, September 8, 2023, at Ferrell-Chambers Funeral Home, Huntington, WV, with Elder George Scott officiating. Visitation will be held 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, Friday, September 8, 2023 at Ferrell-Chambers Funeral Home, Huntington, WV.
